The Indiana State Police in Lafayette said a two vehicle accident on Interstate 65, about one mile south of the State Road 18 exit, caused a backup of over five miles in the northbound lanes, late Friday morning. In a Friday afternoon press release, authorities stated a preliminary investigation revealed a pickup truck driven by Shannon Mulrine, age 58 of Green Bay, Wisconsin, was in the right lane, while in the left lane was a semi truck pulling an empty fuel trailer. The semi driver was 62 year old Kurt Alan Sanner, from Hiawatha, Kansas. State Police said Mulrine attempted to change lanes and struck the right front of the big truck. Mulrine then lost control of his pickup, rolled once, as the vehicle came to rest on its top in a ditch. The semi also left the roadway into the median cables. Both drivers refused treatment at the scene, and I-65 was down to one lane for about 90 minutes, which led to the two hour back up.
