On Friday, Governor Holcomb announced his plan to re-open the state’s economy during COVID 19. Here are some of his remarks during his press briefing, as he talks about stages of the process and dates when various businesses may re-open, with limitations at first, as we move from Stage 1 into Stage 2, and beyond. Our news department spoke with former Vice President at Saint Joseph's College Bill Hogan on Tuesday, October 15th, after he returned to Seattle, Washington this week, following his resignation from the college earlier this month. We asked him if he had any specific comments about the new direction the Board of Trustees is taking at this time.

The Town of Fowler and Benton Community Foundation joined in an effort to convert a vacant building in the county seat into a town park. Fowler received a $50,000 grant from The Indiana Housing & Community Authority, after the town raised more than that amount. A ribbon cutting ceremony, including speakers, food, music, popcorn and more will be held, beginning at six p.m. on Wednesday, September 4th. A Wooden Bat Tournament, featuring 13 year olds on eight different teams from around the state, began Friday (May 31st), at Gil Hodges Field on the campus of Saint Joseph's College, and games on Friday, begin at 2, 4, and 6 p.m., Central Time. The no admission fee event continues Saturday and Sunday, (June 1st and 2nd), and net proceeds from team entrance fees go toward efforts to bring students back to St. Joe. There are no concessions. We spoke to Jason Taulman, formerly from this area who attended Saint Joe, and one of the organizers for the event, and he said teams will include players from several locations, including Newton, Benton, White and Tippecanoe counties. He talks more about the tourney, including Saturday and Sunday games.
The Town of Morocco has submitted a grant application to the Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs (OCRA), pertaining to an important location for the town’s water system. Town Council President Bob Gonczy explains.
We reported to you earlier this week that the renovation of the Remington Depot has been completed, and the town will use the facility as a small community center. In part two or our two part report, Remington Town Manager Jon Cripe talks about plans for further beautification possibilities.
The Town of Remington has completed their railroad depot renovation project. Remington Main Street will be holding an open house in June or July for people to see the work done. Town Manager Jon Cripe said they are already taking reservations for the use of the over 100 year old facility.
