You do not want to miss the best Fat Tuesday celebration north of New Orleans! The Lafayette Breakfast Optimist Club will hold its 19th Annual Fat Tuesday Dinner Party and Fund Raiser on Tuesday, March 1, 2022 at the Outpost on Old 321 South.
Revelry starts at 6:00 and features live and silent auctions (with items like the Indy Car Experience, hot air balloon ride, resort stays, skydiving package, the Pickled Pedaler, sports tickets, and dozens of packages from local businesses) , live traditional Dixieland and jazz music, a Mardi Gras costume contest, a raffle and a Balloon Wall with great prizes, amazing appetizers including oysters and alligator, a full authentic Southern Cajun Dinner, a cash bar, special guests, and a surprise celebrity emcee.
Tickets are $50 a person. Groups may purchase a table for $800. Individual and corporate sponsorships are also available.
Proceeds from the event go to the Breakfast Optimist Teacher Grant Program. The program, which has been operating for 15 years, awarded over $17,000 each of the last two years in classroom grants to local teachers, despite Covid restrictions.
Meeting the needs of young people in communities worldwide, Optimist Clubs have been “Bringing out the Best in Kids” since 1919. Optimist Clubs conduct positive service projects aimed at providing a helping hand to the youth of the community. In addition to the Teacher Grant Program, which impacts hundreds of children each year, the local club has built playgrounds and Gaga pits and helped with repairs and renovations at several schools, Lafayette Transitional Housing, Boys and Girls Club, Imagination Station, It’s My Closet, Murdock Park, CFRC, Armstrong Park, Cary Home, to name a few. They also contribute financially to dozens of local youth oriented programs.
