    Stages Of Re-Opening Indiana’s Economy

    On Friday, Governor Holcomb announced his plan to re-open the state’s economy during COVID 19. Here are some of his remarks during his press briefing, as he talks about stages of the process and dates when various businesses may re-open, with limitations at first, as we move from Stage 1 into Stage 2, and beyond.  He begins by talking about the four areas which will constantly be monitored, and he emphasized these opening procedures are subject to change, based on the numbers from those four principles.     Former SJC VP Says New Plan Forthcoming In December

    Our news department spoke with former Vice President at Saint Joseph's College Bill Hogan on Tuesday, October 15th, after he returned to Seattle, Washington this week, following his resignation from the college earlier this month. We asked him if he had any specific comments about the new direction the Board of Trustees is taking at this time.

    Remembering William Howard Taft’s Visit To Newton County

    A special event will be taking place on Saturday, September 14th, at Hazelden, near Brook, the former home of playwright and writer, George Ade. Chairwoman of the George Ade Historic Preservation Commission Chrissy Wright, has more information about an historical marker to be erected and other activities, as well.

     

    Fowler Monarch Commons Project

    The Town of Fowler and Benton Community Foundation joined in an effort to convert a vacant building in the county seat into a town park.  Fowler received a $50,000 grant from The Indiana Housing & Community Authority, after the town raised more than that amount.  A ribbon cutting ceremony, including speakers, food, music, popcorn and more will be held, beginning at six p.m. on Wednesday, September 4th.  Town of Fowler President Linda Brouillette they are waiting on a couple of items.

    8 Teams Playing Baseball At Saint Joe In Rensselaer

    A Wooden Bat Tournament, featuring 13 year olds on eight different teams from around the state, began Friday (May 31st), at Gil Hodges Field on the campus of Saint Joseph's College, and games on Friday, begin at 2, 4, and 6 p.m., Central Time. The no admission fee event continues Saturday and Sunday, (June 1st and 2nd), and net proceeds from team entrance fees go toward efforts to bring students back to St. Joe. There are no concessions. We spoke to Jason Taulman, formerly from this area who attended Saint Joe, and one of the organizers for the event, and he said teams will include players from several locations, including Newton, Benton, White and Tippecanoe counties. He talks more about the tourney, including Saturday and Sunday games.
